Job Description For Millwright Welders :
Matrix Labour Leasing is hiring up to 35 experienced tradespeople for a refinery shutdown project in Newport News, VA, running from May 5 to 18, 2025, offering 12-hour day and night shifts with pay rates between $30–$34/hr plus $150–$160 daily per diem; applicants must hold valid safety certifications and have proven experience in welding, millwright work, or rigging, with travel and a mandatory pre-project meeting scheduled for May 4.
Responsibilities For Millwright Welders :
- Perform structural steel repairs, welding, and bolt-up tasks
- Assemble and install mechanical systems, including conveyors, chutes, and slew drives
- Work with cranes and heavy steel components at height
- Ensure strict compliance with all safety procedures and site protocols
- Use precision tools and measurements for layout and fitting tasks
- Collaborate with other skilled trades on a fast-paced shutdown timeline
- Maintain a clean and safe work area throughout the project duration
- Report any safety concerns or equipment issues immediately to supervisors
Requirements For Millwright Welders :
- Valid certifications (must be current within 3 years):
- OSHA 10,Aerial Work Platform (AWP),Telehandler,Fall Protection,Rigging
- AWS Stick Welding Certification (for Welders and Millwright Welders)
- Previous experience in shutdowns, mechanical assembly, and structural steel work
- Ability to read and follow precision layout instructions
- Must bring personal protective equipment:
- Full-body harness with dual retractable lanyards
- Three personal lockout locks
- Suitable industrial work gear
- Attendance at the mandatory pre-project meeting on May 4 at 3:00 PM
- Willingness to commit to the full shutdown schedule and work in physically demanding environments
